Here are 10 parenting tips to help you be the best mom you can be. As a parent we are in it for the long haul. We need to focus on developing the child's life skills so that they can grow into loving and responsible adults.
- Problem Solving: Encourage your child to develop problem solving skills. Instead of solving problems yourself, encourage your child to think of possible solutions.
- Decision Making: Give options and encourage your child to make the decisions. eg. clothes to wear etc.
- Creative Thinking: Encourage new ways of thinking and doing things.
- Critical Thinking: Encourage your child to analyze problems objectively and come up with a Plan A, B and C.
- Communication Skills: Encourage your child to listen carefully to others, understand and express himself/ herself better each day. Guide your child to express his/her feelings, expectations and thoughts clearly. Help your child to understand the importance of tone and body language as well.
- Interpersonal Relations: Teach your child the importance of relationships with people. Encourage him/ her to acknowledge the presence of another human being and take an interest in getting to thow them and their needs. Help her/ him to deal with conflicts. Instill a respectful and joyful attitude into investing in relationships.
- Empathy: Encourage your child to develop the ability to understand what another person may be thinking or feeling in a particular situation.
- Self Awareness: Help your child to learn to love the person that he/ she is. In humility help your child to appreciate his/ her strengths and be aware of any weaknesses.
- Management of Emotions: Teach your child to identify emotions and healthy ways to express and deal with them. Help him/ her to understand that emotions are a physical manifestation of thoughts and the importance of choosing healthy and positive thoughts.
- Management of Stress: Help your child to choose positive responses to pressure and recognize ways to deal with feelings of being overwhelmed or inadequate.
