Mother Daughter Relationships

Mother daughter relationships are so complex and yet so crucial. Every mom was once a daughter too. We are stongly influenced to be like our moms - be it in our view of how the home should be run or the way we relate to your husbands. It also affects the way we parent our own children.

Sometimes we resent them if we learn that there is another/ better way. I went through a phase where I felt that staying at home with your kids was the best way to parent. During that time I resented my mom for having worked. I have slowly come to realize that staying at home does not mean that you automatically become a good mom.

The Bible says that we are to honor our parents. As a daughter I tend to take my mom for granted. Many times I realize that she is right - much later. Why is it so difficult to listen to her wisdom? And as we grow we realize that they are vulnerable too...need help sometimes. As daughters we need to invest in our relationship with our mothers too. And continue to grow and nurture it once we have our own homes and have flown the nest.
